Frequently asked questions
What is Cambria made of?
Cambria is pure, natural quartz, a stone right from the earth. Quartz is one of the hardest and most common minerals on earth, giving Cambria the rare combination of superior beauty and strength.
How does Cambria compare to granite?
Cambria is quartz, a natural stone. You get the look and feel of granite, but it is nonporous and maintenance-free. Simply wipe Cambria with a soft cotton cloth and warm water, and use a mild soap or cleaner if desired. Because Cambria is nonporous, it never requires sealing, polishing, or reconditioning. Granite is a porous stone. It needs to be sealed regularly with a chemical treatment. It can absorb liquids and food, risking potential staining and bacterial growth in the countertop.
How is Cambria different from other quartz surfaces?
Cambria is the ONLY quartz surface produced in the United States of America; all of the other quartz products are imported. Therefore, Cambria’s color options are also significantly different, reflecting our knowledge and responsiveness to the American marketplace. Additionally, Cambria is a family owned company with more than 60 years of manufacturing experience.
Is Cambria natural stone?
Yes. Cambria is pure natural quartz with a small amount of pigments and an epoxy resin. It contains no soft minerals like granite. The unique process results in a natural stone product of uncommon beauty and superior strength. It’s twice as strong as granite and is nonporous.
Is Cambria resistant to surface damage?
Cambria is structurally more resistant to surface damage than other stone. However, no stone surface is 100% chip and scratch proof and objects hitting edges may cause blemishes.
Will Cambria stain?
Cambria’s nonporous surface provides resistance to staining and eliminates the need for any sealing. Its nonporous surface also greatly reduces the potential for bacterial growth from food absorbing in your countertop.
What range of Cambria products are available?
Cambria is an excellent surface choice for a wide variety of uses, including kitchen countertops, bathroom vanities, shower and tub surrounds, furniture tabletops and accent pieces, fireplace surrounds, desk tops, wet bar areas, and window sills. Cambria is available in 1cm, 2cm, and 3cm thickness. Many fabricators also offer edges that create the appearance of a thicker slab.
Is Cambria safe for food preparation?
Yes, Cambria is nonporous and has been certified by NSF International* for food and splash zones in commercial kitchens. That is the same certification as stainless steel. There is no safer countertop for food preparation. * NSF International is The Public Health and Safety Company™
Does the design go all the way through the Cambria product?
Yes, Cambria’s natural quartz and rich designs go all the way through the material. Please note that select designs with innovative surface textures such as the Leabridge-Satin Ridge design or groundbreaking Berkshire™ and Inverness™ family of designs with debossed veining will have edges that differ from their surface; mitering extends surface to edges.
Is Cambria seamless? Will I see a seam?
Cambria is a natural stone product that does require seams for any application larger than slab size. These seams are generally visible, but often less noticeable than a typical granite seam. Where there are seams the product pattern and shade can change (countertops).
What kind of sink can I use?
Cambria can be used with any under-mount or drop in sink, including stainless steel, cast iron, porcelain, or solid surface. Farm sinks can also be used.
